Gorilla trekking safaris in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park: Mgahinga gorilla national park is the second (2rd) Gorilla trekking destination in Uganda. It is part of the Virunga massive conservation area that is shared by 3 countries.
Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga gorilla national park is one of the many activities done in the park. Interaction of mountain gorillas with other animals in the forest: Mgahinga gorilla national park is home to so many other wild animals among these include Buffalos and Forest Elephants. When these cross paths with the mountain gorillas, the dominant Silver back tend to lead the family away from them as far as possible. This is so because mountain gorillas cannot fight elephants or buffalos hence, they tend to avoid them.
Interaction with other gorilla families: Very female in a mountain gorilla family belongs to the dominant silver back. But as the family grows in number, the females tend to switch families / groups. This is done when two families interact. This is done in order to avoid inbreeding. However, dominant silver backs are against this because they make them lose their females. Hence when two families interact, they will either fight in defense of their members or move from each other as far as possible.

The Gorilla trekking experience in Mgahinga is generally not for the faint hearted. But since they are located on one mountain, the experience is generally easier than Bwindi impenetrable forest that has a series of hills where you are moving up and down.
Well Bwindi and the Virunga massive (Where Mgahinga gorilla national park is part) was once one forest. But due to human settlement, Mgahinga was separated from Bwindi hence made them two different national parks at the time when they were gazette.

Bwindi gorillas and gorillas in Mgahinga national park are the same. They are all Mountain gorillas. Although some researchers had wanted to make them two distinct species (Gorilla beringei)
